sounds to use for background noise

topic posted Tue, December 21, 2004 - 5:58 PM by  KSL
i heard that "white noise" doesn't work as well as more natural noises.

high frequency= high pitch voices
running water=fairy sounding voices
low frequency=low pitched voices

what are your thoughts on this?

Last time we tried it, was outdoors on a hilltop in Pace cemetary here in Atlanta. The wash of wind against the MD mic seemed to provide a good bed for voices.. plus dragging of feet as we milled about, branches russling, leaves whispering..

when you say sounds to use as background noise, what do you mean specifically, KSL?

White Noise, by the way, is defined as all frequencies at once at equal volume (following the same approach as white light which is all lights at equal intensity).

People who just love the sound of analogue over digital are really just enjoying a certain noise floor in the music caused by the natural tape compression and tube distortion caused by analogue tape machines.

As it turns out, tubes produce odd harmonic distortion. Since the odd harmonics are all octaves, there is a certain musicality to this noise.

Original digital recordings were so quiet and had such dynamic range that
they really unnerved people who like the 'soft fuzzy' quality of analogue tape compression and tube distortion in herent in LPs and other analogue
      recordings.

It may be sick but I rather enjoy the sound of cassette decks, as noisy as they are.

Soooooo, what do you want your noise for?

the nosie is to help with communication with the afterlife.

by using random noise and telekinetics the souls who have passed from this plain are able to communicate w/ us through audio recordings. the metaphysical self which has passed on can change the random sound waves in the air (which is energy) into words that we can hear once they are recorded.

to say it straight, this is about communication with the dead.
